I have a query regarding the windows datacenter licensing downgrade. We have an environment of windows R2,R2 and Windows will be provisioned in future. We are trying to create a solution which utilize the datacenter licensing benefits to consolidate all the virtual machines running R2,R2 and Windows to a single box.

I serer license the server with 1 datacenter base license 16 core and will windows server 2016 datacenter licensing cost free download license for addional cores in the https://replace.me/11574.txt. My query is whether the datacenter license can be downgraded to different licenses R2,R2 for the VMs in the same server.
